Re-elect

Councilmember

Kevin McKeown

I’ve very grateful to have received the endorsements of so many respected organizations, publications, and individuals.  Below is what they have said:

Santa Monica Mirror:  “We give one of those seats to Kevin McKeown, who has demonstrated an unparalleled dedication to Santa Monica.  In terms of commitment, McKeown is a responsive council member who invests all of his time in Santa Monica.  Send him an email (day or night) and he responds, whether you are a resident or a lowly reporter at the local weekly newspaper.  Santa Monica can’t afford to lose someone as committed and responsive as McKeown.”

State Senator Fran Pavley:  “In his three terms as a Santa Monica City Council Member, Kevin McKeown has proven to be a dedicated public servant. He understands that his job is to represent the residents of Santa Monica and not special interest groups. He has long been a champion of education, public safety, small businesses, affordable housing, and the environment…. He is a natural leader who does not back away from tough issues...”

Santa Monica Police Officers’ Association and Santa Monica FIrefighters’ Association:  “Our decision to endorse you is based upon your commitment to serve the community, your knowledge and concern of the many issues in our City, and your common sense approach to government.  The public, as well as CIty employees, are looking for ethical, compassionate, and fiscally sound decisions from the City Council.  Following the endorsement interviews, we found you to present solid views about problems in our community, as well as possessing the qualities necessary to serve in our City’s highest elected office.”

UNITE/HERE Local 11:  “You have always been a leading voice not just for our members, but for any issue that matters to working families.”

Assemblymember Julia Brownley:  "Kevin McKeown is widely considered the conscience of the progressive movement in Santa Monica. His commitment to affordable housing, slow and responsible growth, environmental responsibility and social justice is second to none.”

Santa Monica Daily Press:  “McKeown is the resident’s candidate, a true pothole-filling politician who has shown not only a willingness but a desire to deal with the day-to-day gripes of residents. He answers residents’ e-mails, attends numerous community meetings and reflects the views of many progressives who call Santa Monica home. While he is criticized for taking the city into uncharted waters, exposing it to litigation or outside criticism, his activism and proactive style help make Santa Monica a leader in sustainability and social justice. We trust he will continue to be a voice for residents and hold developers accountable for the impacts their projects have on the community.”
