Most Santa Monica residents might sleep more soundly knowing that the people they need most in a disaster or other emergency -- our fire and police first responders -- lived close by.  Unfortunately, right now that’s not the case.

We can shift our housing policy to give priority to first responders, and make our community safer.  We’d also be welcoming some pretty good neighbors.  Here’s how I suggest we do it.
