Santa Monica

Councilmember Kevin McKeown

Three hotel/condo towers have been proposed for along Ocean Avenue.  If built, they will alter our seaside skyline forever.

Knowing how deeply these proposals are dividing our community, I asked that we agree to give our residents the final say -- which will be highly likely anyway, via referendum.

The Council, even if unsure about an idea, will almost always offer a collegial second, so the motion, and the public comment, can be discussed.

In this case, as you’ll see, the silence was deafening.

One year earlier I tried to make sure that these massive towers would at least not be considered until we have a comprehensive Downtown Master Plan that includes Ocean Avenue and our coastal skyline.  That effort failed as well
