Santa Monica

Councilmember Kevin McKeown

Santa Monica’s Nativity scene tradition faced challenges when others asked for, and got, equal access to Palisades Park. Last year, the dispute grew heated. What was evolving was the antithesis of what many wish to enjoy, peace and good will.

We on the Council grappled with this for four months, delaying a decision in hope

that a better option might be presented.  None was, so we voted to continue the tradition
in a way that families and their children can still celebrate:  on

local religious or other private property, not in a public park.
